The City of Indianapolis is the capital of the State of Indiana, and is located in the county seat of Marion County, Indiana.  Indianapolis is now the 12th largest city in the United States, with the population nearing 800,000. Indianapolis is the 13th largest city in the US, and the third largest city in the Midwest.  Indianapolis has hosted many events, to include sporting events.  Indianapolis has been labeled as both The Amateur Sports Capital of the World, and The Racing Capital of the World.

 

Indianapolis has hosted the 1987 Pan American Games, both Men’s and Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournaments, the Big Ten Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament, the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, the United States Grand Prix (2000-2007), the 2002 World Basketball Championship, and will host Super Bowl XLVI in February 2012.  Indianapolis is most popular for the Annual Indianapolis 500.
The Indianapolis metro area has seen modest and continuous growth among US cities.
